The Fencing Club at Montana State University - Bozeman is a non-profit club dedicated to bringing the sport of fencing to both the university and the city of Bozeman and surrounding areas. As a club we believe that, even though Montana is a very rural state, everybody should get the opportunity to try fencing. We welcome all levels of ability, ranging from the complete beginner to the veteran who has been fencing for over 20 years. We have some of the best fencers for all three weapons in the Inland Empire Division of the US Fencing Association, frequently qualifying for the annual national tournament.
This semester, the fencing club will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00pm to 8:00pm in the main gym in Romney Gymnasium (located on the third floor). If you're uncertain about fencing, show up and watch! We like spectators and you might just decide you want to try it.
If you've never fenced before, Fencing.net has a great guide to the basics of modern, sport fencing. As mentioned earlier, we welcome beginners to all of our events (including our tournaments, which often feature a "novice" event where beginning fencers can compete against other fencers of a similar skill level). We have a large collection of fencing gear that we can check out to new fencers (in fact the gear rental is included in the fees), so you don't have to make much of an initial expense to try the sport out.
